What to Expect from Recruitment, Tips & Tricks!

We know how nerve-racking  the recruitment experience can be, we've all been there, but we're just as nervous as you are. As the buzz around recruitment season grows everyone in the Greek Community at the University of Toronto couldn't be more excited! If you're coming through sorority recruitment we'd like to prepare you with some tips and helpful information.

Panhellenic Council
This body is made up of sisters from every house on campus. They help plan recruitment but do more for the Greek Community on a day to day basis. They will be your go to people if you ever need help during the recruitment period.

Information Sessions
The Panhellenic Council will provide information sessions before recruitment allowing you to have the chance to understand what will happen during recruitment and answer questions about Greek Life. The dates for these sessions are:
1) Monday September 9th at 6pm. Location: Hart House Music Room
2) Friday September 13th at 2pm. Location: Hart House Debates Room

UofTSororities will also be present at University of Toronto's clubs days where you will be able to sign up or ask questions. Make sure to follow @uoftsororities to keep up to date on any possible changes to these events.

Rounds
The recruitment process is divide into three rounds.  Round 1, which will be held on September 19th  from 3-8pm and September 20th from 3-8pm, will be an opportunity to visit all seven houses. The University of Toronto is home to seven NPC (National Panhellenic Council) sororities. These include: Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Phi, Delta Delta Delta, Gamma Phi Beta, Kappa Kappa Gamma and Pi Beta Phi. The second round will allow you to revisit five houses where you'll have more time to learn about the houses and their philanthropy. This round will be held on September 21st from 12-5:30pm. The third round is called Preference where you will be able to revisit two houses. This round will be on September 22nd from 11am - 2pm and is dressier than the previous rounds. This will give you the last opportunity to getting to know the houses. Later that evening at 6pm is Bid Day where you will find out what house you have received a bid to join and spend some time getting to know your new sisters and you will also find out what houses the Rho Gammas belong to!

If you have any conflicts with any of these dates or any additional questions, please contact join@uoftsororities.com.

TIPS FOR RECRUITMENT

Ask Questions
It's great to come in with questions and houses love to hear them. If there's something you want to get involved in or learn more about ask about it!

Know What You're Getting Into
Being a part of a sorority costs money to cover all the wonderful things they offer. Each house's dues include different things and is a good thing to ask about. In addition, these fun events have time commitments- so make sure you're well informed about these as well.

Don't Be Afraid To Try Treats
The houses work super hard to come up with fun rounds and make sweet treats - it would be a shame not to try some! It's also a great way to keep yourself full round to round.

Wear Comfortable Shoes
You'll be walking house to house at times and on your feet more than you expect. Make sure that you are comfortable in the shoes you're wearing.

Meet Everyone You Can
The recruitment process is super exciting and you're meeting a lot of people. Making a conscious effort to make friends in your recruitment group makes the process even more enjoyable. You'll be seeing them round to round and the best part of it all is that they'll be a part of the Greek Community too- so you'll be seeing them post recruitment a ton!

Talk to your Rho Gamma
Rho Gamma's will be your guides during recruitment. They've given up their letters to help you find yours. If you have any questions your Rho Gamma or the Panhellenic Council are there to make sure you have the best experience.

Treat Yourself Right
Make sure that you're getting enough sleep, eating, and drinking tons of water. The recruitment process is exciting but it's much more fun when you've got all the energy you need.

Trust Yourself
Look for women that make you feel comfortable and most at home. Disregard the stereotypes and go into each house open-minded. Allow yourself to trust your judgment and make your own opinions separate from what people around you may feel or say. This is ultimately your next four years and beyond!

Most Importantly, Be Yourself!
When you're comfortable and being yourself you are going to get back a better experience from recruitment. Not only that it'll help you realize where you feel most comfortable- the most you!
