Founder's Day!
125 years ago, Sarah Ida Shaw and Eleanor Dorcas Pond declared, “let us found a society that shall be kind alike to all and think more of a girl’s inner self and character than of her personal appearance.” We, as Tri Deltas, are incredibly proud of this founding principle, which remains relevant to this day as our organization and chapters continue to grow. Founder’s Day is the perfect time to celebrate the beautiful work of our four founders: Sarah Ida Shaw, Eleanor Dorcas Pond, Florence Isabelle Stewart, and Isabel Morgan Breed. I am inspired by the courage of these women who came together to create their own organization in a time when men dominated higher education. Today, 125 years later, Delta Delta Delta is thriving. I am so thankful that 4 unbelievably brave women founded an organization based in friendship and love, and that hundreds of thousands of women have shared in the bonds I have come to cherish so deeply.
The Canada Alpha collegiate chapter and the Toronto Tri Delta alumnae chapter come together every year to honour our founders. It is particularly special to be able to share this event with our most recent initiates, who are just beginning their Tri Delta journey, as well as alumnae women who can share their experiences and wisdom with us. Our sisterhood spans many years and is incredibly valuable to all who have experienced it. I look forward to many, many more years of Tri Delta sisterhood. Happy Founder’s Day!
“Hold it within the secret recesses of your heart, love it, cherish it. Let its radiance be a glowing, warming, strengthening influence in the lives of all with whom you, at any time, come in contact. Then, all joys will be yours.” - Sarah Ida Shaw, ∆∆∆
